Description
Japanese: The Game, the breakaway hit with linguists and Otaku alike, flips the script on traditional language education. Playing the Language teaches you the grammar BEFORE the vocab, giving you a structure on which to hang new words. In addition to providing the same kinds of benefits as total-immersion language learning, we’ve gamified the process. The more you play, the more you learn; the more you learn, the more complicated your sentences can become, which means more points for you! Plus, the game grows with you; every expansion adds topical vocab as well as rules for new kinds of play. Just as a deck of playing cards contains an endless variety of games (solitaire, hearts, poker) so too does Japanese: The Game. UM is proud to unveil the upgraded Japanese: The Game V2. While maintaining the spirit of the original gameplay, V2 features larger decks, better rules, and JLPT: N5 alignment. Core Decks now contain 108 cards (instead of 72) and Expansions now include 54 cards (instead of 36). We’ve also redesigned the cards to make them easier to read and drive players towards a holistic-concept approach instead of a one-to-one word exchange. V2 cards will always be backwards compatible with previous decks, but now include additional rule sets to accommodate both beginners as well as more advanced learners. We’ve also developed rules for single players, and even larger groups. The Japanese Language Proficiency Test is THE standard, and UM has reoriented the vocabulary and cultural selections in V2 to best prepare players for the kinds of questions they’ll encounter on the N5 (the easiest level of certification). To prepare for the READING sections, the cards present words and expressions as whole concepts in English without a direct one-to-one translation, as well as the word and example sentences in hiragana, katakana, and kanjii. To prepare for the LISTENING sections, the cards contain QR codes tied directly to the pronunciation of that card.
The cards in this game have japanese words on them, along with markings that help you put them together in complete, grammatically correct sentences every time.
This game puts the language right in your hands, helping you learn at your own pace.
Words and phrases are japanese language proficiency test aligned (n5), helping you prepare.
Use any qr reader to get audio playback of word pronunciation.
This core deck has 108 cards, which is enough for up to 2 players. To accommodate more players, each expansion provides enough cards for an additional player.
